Kettler Mondeo ST Elliptical Trainer Review
We have not yet had the opportunity to properly review the Kettler Mondeo ST, but hope to be able to very soon.
The Kettler Mondeo ST elliptical trainer is no doubt one of the best we’ve tried to date. It would even give models costing three times as much a run for their money!
It doesn’t have that many programmes, it doesn’t have personal trainer software such as iFit, and it doesn’t even have a bottle holder!
But what it does have makes it a very popular machine and an almost automatic choice if you’ve got around £550 to spend on a trainer.
The design looks absolutely right with its vibrant colours, shades and lines that exemplify the Kettler brand of quality and functionality. The fact that is can accommodate a person of 23.5 stone is a sign of its strength and design.
The Mondeo ST has a certain characteristic that’s not always easy to quantify. It’s one of those machines that just feels right as soon as you step on it. The action requires another adjective as ‘smooth’ doesn’t seem adequate to describe the lightness and feel of the movement.
Unlike the Vito models it does have 8 pre-set programmes including a heart rate controlled workout. You can measure your pulse using either the hand grips on the static handles, an ear clip or a chest strap (not included). The chest strap is by far the best option as there are no wires involved that can get caught by your arms. The ear clip can be uncomfortable and to use the grips you have to take your hands off the training handles.
Heart rate controlled programmes are a very useful feature as they’ll vary the resistance level or target speed to keep you training in the optimum zone for both improving fitness or burning fat.
The recovery and fitness tests are a useful feature to measure your progress as they’ll take your pulse rate over a standard workout.
Our score : 9.2 ( out of 10 ) A superb trainer that will go a long way to help you reach your goals.
You get a lot of machine in this is a compact trainer so it would fit quite easily into most rooms. If you're small you might find it a little awkward to move around as it's 85kg and doesn't have transport wheels - which is a shame. Ease of portability can be a major factor in choosing a trainer because if you're not feeling too motivated to train, the thought of struggling to get your trainer into place may be enough to put you off! If it's easy you've got no excuse :0)

Kettler Mondeo ST - Console / Display Unit
The console (see left) has a backlit colour LCD display and was clear, well laid out making it easy to read. You can see your speed, time per session, distance travelled, calories burnt, your pulse rate and everything relevant to the programme you're using. From our experience of working with many clients knowing this information can help when you're getting tired. To see how many calories you've burnt and how far you've gone can inspire you to keep going to the end of your programme. The one touch buttons to change resistance is a nice touch as this saves you having to scroll through the settings whilst trying to do a manual workout or override an automatic programme - you have 10 resistance levels to choose from.
